Who We Are: Christians

We are ordinary men and women. We come from different backgrounds, we have different jobs, and we span all age ranges, but we all strive to be Christians. We aren’t perfect, but we’re doing our best to honor the perfect One who died for us!

We are a church modeled after the churches we read about in the New Testament. Following the New Testament example means that we have elders—also called shepherds and overseers—who lead us and deacons—literally, “servants”—who support our work (1 Timothy 3:1-13). It means we strive to spend our money the way New Testament churches did (see as examples Philippians 4:14-20 and 1 Corinthians 16:1-4). It also means that, as those churches functioned independently, we are not a part of any denomination or other earthly collection of churches.

Being Christians means that we seek our Savior in everything. In our homes, we strive to show Christ’s love to our families (Ephesians 5:22-6:4). In our relationships, we strive to show Christ’s love. And in our lives, we strive to better learn God’s will—and put it into practice—each day (James 1:22-25).

Above all, we always strive to grow closer to our God, so that we may serve him in this life and live with him once our hope of heaven is revealed (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)!

What We Believe: The Bible

God has blessed us beyond measure by giving us a record of His love and the history of His people. The Bible, which God revealed via inspired writers (2 Timothy 3:16-17), tells us all we need to know about God’s nature and how we can honor the One who created us.

It’s important that we carefully follow God’s word. Jesus calls on us to seek the “narrow way”, which he warns is difficult (Matthew 7:13-14). Jesus himself was often rejected. We strive to answer these difficulties the way Peter did: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:66-69).

We strive to follow the Bible in everything, rejecting anything that lessens, broadens, or contradicts God’s word. The Bible is God’s revealed word, and the only way we can be saved from our sins (Acts 4:11-12, 1 Corinthians 15:1-2).
